On 08.01.2023, RGS Nordic was mentioned in a media article in DR’s 21Søndag. The media report is critical of the Environmental Protection Agency’s case management, including RGS Nordic’s import permit for oily wastewater from Norway and the guidelines for using so-called mixing zones in connection with the discharge of wastewater.
We refer to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency’s (Miljøstyrelsen) response to the indictment, and in line with this can confirm that RGS Nordic fully complies with the authorities’ statutory requirements for the import and treatment of industrial waste water:
“As a Danish environmental company, we at RGS Nordic naturally work in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations within our area, and we are constantly in close dialogue with the respective authorities regarding our work. Our import permit for industrial waste water is fairly new, from the summer of 2022, and before it was issued, it has gone through extensive and thorough case processing by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency as the competent Danish environmental authority.
The same applies to our cleaning process which is carried out in close dialogue with Slagelse kommune (Slagelse municipality) as competent environmental authority under regulation of the existing environmental approval. As a result of practice, this environmental approval is in the process of being revised by Slagelse kommune in cooperation with the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. Slagelse kommune has informed us that the revised environmental approval for RGS Nordic Water Solutions in Stigsnæs will be postponed by one to two months. We are thus awaiting the municipality’s further legal assessments and final environmental approval for the continued operation of one of Northern Europe’s most efficient water treatment plants. We have confidence that this can happen with regard to both Danish marine nature and the most effective treatment of industrial waste water from socially critical companies in Denmark and abroad”.
